Pictures have surfaced of André 3000 in costume as Jimi Hendrix, and the resemblance to the late ‘60s guitar god is uncanny.
All Is By My Side, which will follow Hendrix’s time in London recording his seminal album Are You Experienced?, is currently filming in Ireland for the next six weeks. The project is being helmed by three production companies: Darko Entertainment, Subotica Entertainment and Matador Pictures.
It is unclear whether the John Ridley-directed film will have original Hendrix music in it, due to his estate’s reluctance to participate.
Experience Hendrix, LLC is the company run by surviving members of Hendrix’s family that oversees the late guitarist’s legacy. The company is notoriously strict about what uses they allow, and they have stated that “no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without [the company’s] full participation.”
Since the biopic started production without involvement from Experience Hendrix, especially not “from the inception” as mandated, the musical aspect of the film—one of the most important, being that it’s a movie about the recording of an album—is up in the air.
