American indie-rockers Superchunk are set to release a new summer-themed 7” single on June 12. The single features “This Summer,” the band’s first new single since 2010’s Majesty Shredding. The B-side features the band’s version of the ‘80s Bananarama hit “Cruel Summer.”
“I like ‘summer’ songs,” Superchunk frontman Mac McCaughan said in a press release. “They could be about the actual season, or just be songs listened to most while doing things you do during the summer—taking a road trip, going to the coast, sitting outside on the roof or the porch or the beach or wherever.”
This isn’t the first themed release for Superchunk: Last fall they covered The Misfits’ “Where Eagles Dare” for Halloween.
“This Summer” b/w “Cruel Summer” is available for pre-order now in the Merge store.
