On Aug. 21, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti is set to release the follow-up to their 2010 debut, Before Today. The new album will be called Mature Themes and, like its predecessor, come by way of 4AD Records. A number of fall tour dates were also announced.
Before assembling Haunted Graffiti and releasing Before Today, Pink was known for the literally thousands of lo-fi recordings he made from his basement. As Pink told SPIN, however, the new album won’t have the same home-made vibe that characterized much of his band’s debut.
“Sonically, it’s comparable,” said Pink. “There are definitely not any links to my lo-fi origins. It’s so diverse but so different from anything I’ve done before. In a sense, its really the record I wanted to make back when I made Before Today, but couldn’t due to pressures and different factors. We had time to let our hair down and try new things.”
