Between IFC’s upcoming single-camera comedy based on Marc Maron’s WTF interview podcast and the recent transition of Comedy Bang! Bang!, podcasts have become the newest field for networks to mine for comedic talent.
MTV is now the latest to jump on this trend, launching The Nikki and Sara Show, which will feature the hosts from the weekly podcast, You Had To Be There. Filming in the Times Square studio that once housed TRL, comedians Nikki Glaser and Sara Schaefer will perform street interviews, act in sketches and generally be all-around entertaining.
MTV head of programming David Janollari told TV Guide, “We’ve been looking for the next comedic point of view, a personality that really speaks to the Millennial audience. We think we have something really special in The Nikki and Sarah Show, particularly the two remarkable comedic personalities that are both smart and hilarious.”
The Nikki and Sara Show is expected to launch later this year, and would air weekly at 11 p.m. on a night that has not yet been determined.
