The film centered on Jim Henson’s Fraggle Rock appeared destined to be reside in endless pre-production. But it seems this Muppet movie’s future has just gotten a little brighter. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jim Byrkit and Alex Manugian have been selected as writers for the film adaptation of the 1980s musical Muppet series.
The duo both worked on the recent Acadamy Award-nominated Rango with Byrkit receiving writing credit and Manugian doing voice work. The Jim Henson Co. and The Montecito Co. are co-producing the project. It’s uncertain who the director of the film is going to be.
This news arrives one year before the 30th anniversary of the series, which introduced the world to Fraggles, Doozers and Gorgs. With the success of Jason Segel’s The Muppets and a reinvigorated interested in the franchise, Fraggle Rock might have enough momentum to actually make it to movie theaters.
