Coachella Announces Cruise Ship Festival

This winter, Indio, Calif.’s Coachella will make the leap from the desert to the deep blue sea. Festival organizers have announced a cruise ship festival called the S.S. Coachella, the New York Times reports.

Two different Coachella cruises are planned for mid-December of this year. Killer Mike, James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, Sleigh Bells, Yeasayer, Girl Talk, Hot Chip, Pulp, Grimes, the Rapture, Simian Mobile Disco, Warpaint and !!! are all slated to perform. Non-concert events are in the works, too: a wine tasting with James Murphy has already been announced.

Music cruises outside the realm of showtunes are a recent development, but they’re an increasingly popular phenomenon: R. Kelly, Weezer, and John Mayer are just three of many acts who have hosted their own cruises recently.

Both trips will launch from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. A three-day trip leaves December 16 and travels to the Bahamas, while a four-day trip leaves December 19 and travels to Jamaica. Prices for a spot in a four-person cabin start at $500.
