In an eyebrow-raising turn of events, the artist formerly known as Snoop Dogg has revealed that he wants to shed the Dogg moniker and be known as Snoop Lion from now on, effectively retiring from rap.
“Rap is not a challenge to me. I had enough of that. It’s not appealing to me no more,” Snoop shared at a recent press listening party for the Snoop Lion record, titled Reincarnation. The former rapper worked closely with producer Diplo for the record, who’s no stranger to sounds from all over the world.
Snoop, otherwise known as Calvin Broadus, recently released a reggae track, “La La La,” under the Lion name, evidently given to him by a high priest in Jamaica.
The album will be released in conjunction with a documentary of the same name, chronicling the making and recording of the album and produced by Vice Magazine.
