The Amazing Spider-Man will be the first in a new Spider-Man trilogy, according to NME.
Earlier this week, director Marc Webb told the website that he made the film with future installments in mind.
“Movies like this tend to have sequels, [though] ultimately the audience will tell us if they want one,” Webb said. “But I kind of thought it was an interesting thing to anticipate those storylines and think about the back stories and how we can parlay those into an ongoing story.”
Now a post on The Amazing Spider-Man’s Facebook page boasts: “It’s finally here! The Amazing Spider-Man is the first installment in a movie trilogy that will explore how our fave hero’s journey was shaped by the disappearance of his parents.”
It appears the sequels will have a ready audience, as the film broke opening day box-office records, making $35 million in the U.S. alone on Tuesday.
Andrew Garfield, who stars in the film, has confirmed that the second Spider-Man will be released in May of 2014, although the script has not yet been written.
