To honor the victims of last year’s terrorist attack, Bruce Springsteen made a surprise appearance in Norway last night.
Accompanied by E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt, they gave a rendition of the old protest song “We Shall Overcome” to a crowd of over 60,000. The performance was part of a larger memorial concert that took place in Oslo’s City Square, honoring the 69 people who were killed at a youth camp on Utoya Island last year, in addition to the bombing that left another eight dead.
Springsteen told the crowd, “Steve and I are honored to be included here tonight. For all of us who love democracy and tolerance, it’s an international tragedy.” Watch footage of the event below.
