Tom Waits released his latest studio album, Bad As Me, last October, but the gravelly folk singer has yet to tour in support of the album. Until last night, he hadn’t even performed any of its songs live. Waits stopped by The Late Show with David Letterman to treat viewers to “Chicago,” one of the album’s standout tracks.
Just as entertaining was his conversation with Letterman. He discussed how his drinking and smoking “around the clock” got in the way of his jogging when he was living in New York, as well as his recent eBay purchase of a 19th century rat trap.
