It’s been over four years since reports first surfaced that a sequel to Joss Whedon’s hugely successful Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog was imminent. Four years and countless projects (The Avengers, anyone?) later, it seems like it might finally be moving forward.

Whedon was recently in Beverly Hills to moderate a Q&A panel with writer/star Mike Birbiglia and writer Ira Glass for their film Sleepwalk With Me and told Variety|News|LatestNews that he hopes to get the sequel into production within the next year.

Until then, longtime fans and new viewers alike can catch Dr. Horrible’s first ever television broadcast Oct. 9 on the CW.

Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog stars Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day. It was written by Whedon, his brothers Jed and Zack and Maurissa Tancharoen.
