Kurt Cobain-Decorated "Melvan" Up For Auction Again

The Melvins’ 1972 Dodge Sportsman Royal Van was dubbed the “Melvan,” and features original artwork by Cobain—has been placed upon the auction block once again.

According to Rolling Stone, the van was originally auctioned off back in March, reaching a bid of almost $99,999.99. The sale ultimately did not go through because the reserve wasn’t met. There were questions of the authenticity of Cobain’s artwork on the van.

This time around the van’s owner, Ben Berg, means business. He has put “Melvan” on eBay for ten days on a no reserve auction. Berg has also ensured that no questions can be raised about the authenticity of the artwork on “Melvan.”

Berg acquired written statements from Matt Lukin, the original bassist for the Melvins; Mudhoney and Steve Shillinger, a teenage friend of the late Cobain, confirming that the artwork on the van is indeed that of Cobain. Bidding for “Melvan” ends this Sunday at 3 p.m. PDT. The winner can pick up the van in Montesano, Wash.
