radio has aired its third episode and on this one, Avey Tare hosted and premiered three solo tracks, two of which (“Excaliber” and “Mr. Funny Man”) feature Angel Deradoorian from Dirty Projectors.
The tracks follow suit in their Animal Collective nature, but the Dirty Projectors addition make each song feel fragmented and abstract as usual. Not surprisingly, the songs feel like a soundtrack to a bizarre dream.
In an interview with Pitchfork, Avey Tare described their upcoming album Centipede Hz (which they will stream on next week’s episode) as being “a little bit rawer and more excitable,” he said. “The pace and tempos on this one are a lot quicker. We just wanted to do a lot of jammers, and not a lot of ambient, spacey stuff… To us, Merriweather is a terrestrial record, where you’re looking up into space or into the sky, contemplating all this stuff. Comparatively, Centipede Hz is up in space, on a spaceship—but it’s a lot more grounded in one location than off dreamily in the clouds.” Centipede Hz will be released on Sept. 4 in the U.S. and Sept. 3 in the U.K.
