Stand-up comedian Mike Birbiglia appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday in part to promote his new film Sleepwalk With Me, an Official Selection for both the 2012 Sundance and SXSW Film Festivals.
The film was set to open in merely 30 theaters nationwide at the end of this month until Birbiglia and crew began a national campaign that involved fans calling, tweeting and writing in to their local theaters utilizing the hashtag #BringSleepwalk in order to widen the release of the film. The overwhelming response has resulted in Sleepwalk With Me opening in 125 theaters across the country.
The campaign was bumped by a sarcastic video posted by Avenger’s director Joss Whedon, imploring fans to bring the film their local theaters so that they may boycott this indie project and all that it stands for. Birbiglia and his producer Ira Glass did not back down from this challenge and offered a response. View both videos below, in addition to Birbiglia’s appearance on “Late Night” in which he speaks about the entire ordeal.
