has released footage from their forthcoming film The Girl, the first of two films presenting the life of iconic film director Alfred Hitchcock. The film stars Toby Jones as the undisputed master of suspense and Sienna Miller as Tippi Hedren. The film is set to premiere on HBO on Oct. 20 at 9 p.m.
Along with Fox Searchlight’s upcoming Hitchcock starring Anthony Hopkins, this will first of two Hitchcock-based films to be released within the next year. Though images have been leaked of both Jones and Hopkins portraying Hitchcock, this is our first glimpse at either actor attempting to capture the director’s unique voice and mannerisms.
Though brief, this trailer suggests Jones has a fine handle on the late Hitchcock. The trailer also suggests a strong recreation of Hitchcock’s film The Birds, which was Hedren’s first major role after the director hand-picked her to be the “new Grace Kelly.” An ever-pressing affiliation, the film appears to explore both the depths of Hitchcock’s relationship with the actress in addition to his fittingly enigmatic persona.
