Ben Harper and Blues legend Charlie Musselwhite have teamed up for the former’s 12th album, titled Get Up!
The 10-track collection mixes blues, gospel, roots and R&B. Each song was written or co-written by Harper, and Musselwhite’s harmonica helps to accentuate his already-layered vocals. Harper is also joined by his bandmates on the record: Jason Mozersky (guitar), Jesse Ingalls (bass) and Jordan Richardson (drums).
In a statement, Harper revealed that this collaboration was a long time coming. “Charlie and I have been looking to make this record for over ten years,” Harper said. “Now that we’ve gotten to it, I can’t wait to play it live.”
“Ben and I really locked in, personally and musically, when we recorded with John Lee Hooker,” Musselwhite added. “Ever since then we wanted to record together and being in the studio together is just a natural. You can hear it and feel it in the music on Get Up!”
Get Up! will be released Jan. 29, 2013 via Stax Records/Concord Music Group. It was recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Harper.
