On Jan. 22, Wagons’ frontman Henry Wagons will release his first album of solo material, a seven-song EP titled Expecting Company?. Six of the album’s seven tracks will be duets featuring a number of guest singers, most notably Alison Mosshart of The Kills and The Dead Weather.
“Having multiple voices in a song holds a certain power,” says Wagons. “They can represent a unique synergy and oneness, or have a certain schizophrenia or oppositional battle.”
Also featured on the album will be Sophia Brous, Jenn Grant, Robert Forster of The Go-Betweens, Patience Hodgson of The Grates and fellow Australian Gossling.
“I do love a good duet,” Wagons said. “I particularly love the slightly fractured ones that reveal or give an insight into the complexity of human relationships.”
Wagons recording most of the Expecting Company? in his home studio, but traveled to London to record the album’s opening track, “Unwelcome Company,” with Mosshart at her home. The entire EP will be out Jan. 22 on Thirty Tigers Records.
