Terrence Malick and his film crew are clearly fans of the music festival scene, especially ones that feature Atlanta rockers The Black Lips. Last Friday, Malick used The Black Lips’ set at the Fun Fun Fun Festival to capture footage of a very electric Val Kilmer.
According to Rolling Stone, Kilmer was on stage with the rockers for over 30 minutes. Clearly channeling his inner rock star, Kilmer knocked over equipment, shouted at the audience and at one point even cut off his own hair with a bowie knife. Kilmer made it especially hard for the Black Lips to perform as he would shout over the band “We’re gonna play my song tonight.”
Kilmer is not the first star that Malick’s had join the Black Lips on stage for his yet-to-be-named film. Last month during The Black Lips’ Austin City Limits appearance, Kilmer’s costar Rooney Mara took the stage and pretended to play the guitar. Mara also filmed a scene with Neon Indian’s Alan Palomo during SXSW. Other stars from the film have also been followed around at various musical festivals. Last year, Malick captured footage of Christian Bale wandering around the Austin City Limits festival and this year Ryan Gosling has been spotted roaming around with a film crew at Austin City Limits.
Check out just a small bit of Kilmer’s time on stage with the Black Lips.
