This is kind of a big deal: Anchorman 2 is set to hit theaters one year from today, according to producer Judd Apatow and writer/director Adam McKay.
“It’s official,” McKay said in a tweet. “Anchorman 2 has a release date: December 20, 2013. Very excited.”
Apatow echoed the statement in a tweet of his own. Although the team has kept a lot under wraps about the film, plot details that have emerged possibly involve a “custody battle.”
“I don’t want to give away too much, but I’ll just give a couple pieces of ideas that we’ve kicked around,” McKay said in an interview with Salon. “Keep in mind we’re still writing the story, but I’ll say one phrase for you: custody battle. I’ll give you that. I’ll give you one other one: bowling for dollars.”
The announcement comes after a surprise appearance from Ron Burgundy himself on Conan O’Brien’s show last March, where he revealed that the long-awaited sequel was indeed happening. Since then, we’ve got a poster and a small teaser of the film. Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, David Koechner and Christina Applegate are all expected to return to their roles, and Saturday Night Live’s Kristen Wiig has been rumored to star as Carell’s love interest.
