During a press conference at the Television Critics Association (TCA)’s winter press tour, ABC Entertainment President Paul Lee revealed that Joss Whedon’s involvement in the network’s upcoming S.H.I.E.L.D. project, a series based on the Nick Fury-led organization featured in the blockbuster Marvel movies, will extend even beyond co-writing and directing the pilot episode.
According a report by Deadline, Whedon will work on further scripts for the series. Lee says the network specifically chose to shoot in Los Angeles to accommodate his schedule.
“He’s already working on the scripts for the series,” Lee said. “We will have to work. We shot [the pilot] in Los Angeles to make sure that he is free to work across his feature life and his television life, but I love to see Joss who of course has made many great television shows in his day, enjoying television as much as movies. That’s flattering for us. We love that.”
Though the series has not officially been ordered to series, Lee claims it will be the first pilot he looks at for the upcoming fall schedule. Of the project, Lee claims it is “very Joss… He’s able to be intense and epic and suddenly funny and silly.”
