star Amy Poehler will be featured in a 30-second commercial for Best Buy that will air during the Super Bowl on Feb. 3, according to The Associated Press.
The ad is part of a comeback plan to help the electronics retailer fight stiff, recent competition from online retailers and discount stores.
The advertising overhaul will also include social media and a second commercial that explains any special offers. While 30-second ads during the Super Bowl cost around $4 million, it may well be worth such a steep price: last year’s Super Bowl had 111 million viewers.
According to Scott Durchslag, president of Best Buy’s online and global e-commerce, Poehler also “had a lot of creative control” over the commercial.
Poehler is joined by a number of other celebrities making appearances in this year’s batch of Super Bowl ads; stars like Kaley Cuoco (The Big Bang Theory), Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Korean rapper Psy. Cuoco will be featured in a Toyota commercial. Johnson will be in a Milk Processor Board ad. And Psy will be in an ad for Paramount Farms’ Wonderful Pistachios.
The Best Buy ad will air during the first quarter of Super Bowl XLVII.
