The SXSW Film Conference and Festival announced its opening-night film, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone on Tuesday, according to Deadline Hollywood.
Wonderstone, directed by Don Scardino, is about an experienced duo of magicians (Steve Buscemi and Steve Carell) who have to compete with a street magician (Jim Carrey). The movie will premiere at the Austin, Texas film festival on March 8 and then open in theaters on March 15.
Other movies slated to play at the festival include: Joe Swanberg’s Drinking Buddies, starring Olivia Wilde, Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead, a remake of Sam Raimi’s 1981 horror movie, and Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers, starring James Franco.
The festival will also offer at least four non-film events: a discussion with Matthew McConaughey (Magic Mike), an acting workshop with Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development), a discussion about “storytelling in sports filmmaking,” and a first look at the pilot episode for A&E’s newest television series, Bates Motel.
The 2013 SXSW Film Conference and Festival will run March 8-16 and the full list of the films to be shown will be announced Jan. 31, according to The New York Times.
