The Postal Service Reunion Confirmed

Update: The rumored reunion has been confirmed via Billboard, with the band signing on for an appearance at Coachella and a 10th anniversary reissue of their debut album. The duo is also reportedly in talks to perform at other festivals this year. It isn’t yet known if the reunion will result in new music, but Give Up remains Sub Pop’s second-highest selling album, behind only Nirvana’s Bleach. A press release for the band stated that Sub Pop’s reissue will include two unreleased studio tracks, titled “Turn Around” and “A Tattered Line of String.” Extras will also include an unreleased live recording from the band, covers from The Shins and Iron and Wine and “every other official recording the band has ever released.” This will be out as a two-CD, three-LP album on April 9. Check out the tracklist below.

Early this month, BrooklynVegan reported that a reunion between Ben Gibbard and Dntel, better known as The Postal Service, was “in the works,” suggesting that it could possibly go public at Coachella in April.

The artists and publication have been mum since then, but recently The Postal Service updated their website to a simple banner reading, “The Postal Service 2013.” Ben Gibbard appeared on The Colbert Report days after the rumor first surfaced and offered no information regarding the reunion; however, he told Spinner last October that fans shouldn’t expect another album: “There are no plans to make a second record … I can’t say that enough,” he explained. “I find that making music in computers involves a lot of mouse time … I don’t have an aesthetic for that… I’m much more interested in playing music than creating it.”

Although there are still no concrete details, if the band’s website is any indication, fans definitely shouldn’t give up on the hopes of a reunion.
