Deadline reported today that Marvel Studios has cast Parks and Recreation regular Chris Pratt for the lead in its upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy adaptation.
Details of Pratt’s casting are still being withheld at the moment. Previous reports have pointed to Peter Quill (i.e. Star-Lord) as being the lead role in this adaptation. Last year, a list of actors being considered for the lead role included the likes of Wes Bentley, Chris Lowell and Cam Gigandet. Marvel was also rumored to be pursuing Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey at some point.
Aside from his role as the goofy, accident-prone Andy Dwyer on Parks and Recreation, Pratt has landed appearances in major Oscar-conteders such as 2011’s Moneyball and this year’s Zero Dark Thirty.
The film is set for a 2014 release and will be directed by Super director James Gunn.
