Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Ryan Gosling cast his real-life girlfriend Eva Mendes in his directorial debut How to Catch a Monster.
Gosling also wrote the fantasy noir film that was described in a press release as “set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city, Billy, a single mother of two, is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town.”
Mendes will reportedly play Cat, who is “a prominent figure of the Big Bad Wolf Club.”
Christina Hendricks was picked by her Drive co-star to play the lead role of single mother Billy. Hendricks told Vulture that her character is “supporting two children and trying to provide a home for them and a place of comfort in a continuously harder place to be.” The Mad Men actress also provided further plot details that explains Mendes’ character: “I find myself working in this very surreal club that gets me into a sort of predicament, and in the meantime, these boys are off on their own adventures and they discover this underground city.” The club was eventually described as a “fetish club.”
How to Catch a Monster is set to start filming in May. A release date has not yet been anounced.
Named as one of Our 40 Most Anticipated New Movies Coming in 2013, The Place Beyond the Pines will feature Gosling and Mendes on-screen and will be released March 20.
