Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Josh Ritter released the lyric video for the track titled “New Lover” from his forthcoming seventh studio album.
Showcasing the song about love lost and possibly found again, the video beautifully incorporates typewriter-printed lyrics to focus the attention on Ritter’s deeply personal storytelling through folk music.
“The writing of ‘New Lover’ just happened. As it sometimes occurs (though rarely), I got lucky and the tangled ball of emotions unrolled itself almost effortlessly into a song,” Ritter explained to Spinner about his newest track. “As ever, I wanted to make sure that the personal never precluded the ability of someone else to relate to the song, but thankfully, the song’s personality needed no altering. I’m super proud of it, but I almost feel as if I can’t take credit for it.”
“New Lover” isn’t the first song released from The Beast In Its Tracks. Previously reported, “In Your Arms Again” debuted earlier this month on an episode of Grey’s Anatomy on ABC.
will also perform at Paste’s SXSW party in Austin, Texas this March.
Currently available for pre-order here, The Beast In Its Tracks will be released on March 5.
