Beyoncé fans rejoice! The pop diva has released her first new song(s) in over over two years. And it’s…well…different.
Supposedly two songs in one, “Bow Down/I Been On” may very well serve as Beyoncé’s most aggressive song yet (and, coming from a woman whose career consists of decimating enough jilted lovers to give Taylor Swift a run for her money, that’s saying a lot).
The first half—produced by “Niggas in Paris” mastermind Hit-Boy— finds the singer pointedly stating that she’s not “just his [presumably, Jay-Z’s?] little wife” over a trippy hip-hop beat before proclaiming “bow down bitches.”
Meanwhile, the second half, courtesy of Timbaland, features Bey in full-on braggadocio mode, her voice rendered unrecognizable via a gritty, Houston-rap style vocal slow-down.
Whether this track will make its way on Beyoncé’s upcoming fifth album is not clear.
