Two-time Oscar winner Ang Lee is switching screens. The Life of Pi director’s next project will be directing the pilot of FX’s new television show Tyrant, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
According to the report, the drama will be about a modest “American family drawn into the workings of a turbulent Middle East nation.”
The series will be executive produced by Homeland’s Howard Gordon and Gideon Raff, and Craig Wright of Six Feet Under. Lee is also on as an executive producer.
FX president John Landgraf commented on choosing Lee for the project saying, “Ang Lee has demonstrated time and again an ability to present characters with such depth and specificity that they reveal the universal human condition.” He added, “No one could be a more perfect film maker to bring Howard Gordon, Gideon Raff, and Craig Wright’s Tyrant to indelible life.”
According to Deadline, Lee has been offered various TV projects but Tyrants was the first he agreed to.
There is no date set for when the pilot will air but THR reports Lee is headed to Morocco in a few months to begin filming.
