Deadline reports that, after an extensive negotiation process, Netflix has secured exclusive streaming rights for the upcoming third season of the resurrected AMC drama The Killing.
According to the terms of the deal, Netflix will add the show’s third season to its Instant streaming service merely three months after the season finale airs. This marks an usually short time for any streaming or SVOD distribution of a cable show, which normally waits until the launch of the DVD/Blu-Ray a year later to make streaming available.
In preparation for the new season, Netflix, which added the show’s first season to its Watch Instantly titles back in 2012, added the second season to its roster just today.
“We’re excited to see The Killing back on TV and we’re especially proud to bring Season 3 to our members so soon after it premieres on AMC,” Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos says in the article. “The Killing is a terrific serialized drama and we know our members love these high-quality shows.”
Furthermore, Fox TV Studios president David Madden stated that the deal with Netflix was paramount in getting the show renewed.
Production on season three is currently underway. A premiere date has not yet been unveiled.
