Beck, The Avett Brothers to Headline 2013 Newport Folk Festival

Update: Beck has been added to the festival, rounding out a lineup that includes The Avett Brothers, Feist, Andrew Bird, Jim James and more. You can check out the full lineup below.

Original Text: For the first time, The Avett Brothers will headline the 2013 Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island this July.

The lineup for the three-day outdoor event has been rolling out with Phosphorescent, Amanda Palmer, Jim James and more already announced. Newport Folk Fest producer Jay Sweet provided this statement when announcing the North Carolina folk group as headliners:

The Avett Brothers were the first band I ever booked for this festival. I had worked with them on a festival in Jackson Hole, and after a memorable gondola ride up the mountain, I just knew they would find a home and a welcoming family at Fort Adams. You see, the Brothers are just that, Family. Since that first show, we have all grown up together both personally and professionally. They are loyal, they are kind, they have trusted me when they had no reason to and best of all they can flat out play. Whether it be on a stage, on the roof, on a scissor lift, or the backstage lawn just for fun, they’ve basically done it all at Newport except for one thing, headline. Thankfully that will change this summer. Please welcome home The Avett Brothers.”

Newport Folk Fest will take place over the weekend of July 26-28, and The Avett Brothers are set to perform on July 27. Also check out the band’s newly announced tour dates below.
