is back again with a new musical endeavor: a solo record with XL Recordings’ Richard Russell.
In an interview with Rolling Stone conducted during Coachella, the Blur frontman revealed that he recently wrapped up his new “folk soul” album and plans to go on tour behind the LP, playing a variety of tunes spanning his lengthy career from Blur to the Gorillaz to the Good, the Bad and the Queen. Russell produced and contributed to the rhythm section of the solo album and worked with Albarn on the Bobby Womack album.
There was also a hint that a new Blur LP might also be a possibility, with Albarn saying, “We’ve got a couple of occasions when we’re stuck in the middle of nowhere. So we might make the record in a week. If we can, it would be nice.”
Albarn’s opera, Monkey: Journey to the West, will also be hitting NYC’s Lincoln Center July 6 through 8.
