Following one of the most exciting pieces of news to be released this year, The Roots and Elvis Costello have now announced a Sept. 17 release date for their highly anticipated Wise Up Ghost collaboration.
Since The Roots took on their role as the house band for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, the versatile hip-hop group has worked with artists from about every genre imaginable. But none jelled as immediately as when the crew collaborated with Elvis Costello.
Thus, when ?uestlove told Billboard earlier this year that The Roots were working on an album with the legendary Elvis Costello, fans were equally bewildered and excited.
“It’s a moody, brooding affair, cathartic rhythms and dissonant lullabies” ?uestlove said, ”...Elvis went HAM on some ole Ezra Pound shit.” Most of the recording took place in secret at Feliz Habitat Studios in the middle of the night, but some occurred at Costello’s Hookery Crookery Studios. The Roots crew and Costello worked on around 20 songs for Wise Up Ghost that were truncated to a “tight twelve to fourteen song collection.”
The album may still be a few months away from release, but we’re already giddy with anticipation.
