National Geographic Channel announced today that actor Rob Lowe will play John F. Kennedy in the TV movie Killing Kennedy. The film will make its debut later this year to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the assassination of the United States’ 35th president.
The film will be based on the best-selling book by Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard and will follow the moments leading up to the events of Kennedy’s death.
Joining Lowe is Ginnifer Goodwin, who will play beloved first lady Jacqueline Kennedy, and Michelle Trachtenberg who will play Marina Oswald. “We are thrilled to be working with Rob Lowe, Ginnifer Goodwin and Michelle Trachtenberg, three gifted artists whom have responded to this timely, authentic and entertaining material,” said Howard T. Owens, president of the National Geographic Channels, in a statement.
The feature will be filmed this June in Richmond, Va., and directed by Nelson McCormick, who is known for his work on ER, The West Wing and The Closer.
