According to recent reports, Scarlett Johansson and Reese Witherspoon are the frontrunners to portray former secretary of state Hillary Clinton in an upcoming biopic titled Rodham.
The film will focus on the younger years of the former First Lady and senator, when she was a student and lawyer with a budding political career. The makers of Rodham are planning for a 2016 release date that coincides with the next presidential election when many people are expecting Clinton to run.
Other contenders for the potentially award-winning role are Amanda Seyfried (Les Misérables) and Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty).
James Ponsoldt, who recently signed on to direct the film, said that, “Regardless of people’s political affiliation or how they feel about Hillary Clinton, you don’t find people who question the quality of her intelligence or her drive. I want a wonderful actress who could embody that.”
After racy parts of the final screenplay were leaked earlier in May by the Daily Beast, the press feasted on the film’s portrayal of Clinton’s sex life. Screenwriter Young il-Kim addressed rumors by saying, “I didn’t write 50 Shades of Rodham, as some news outlets are suggesting. I am a boring prude with little imagination.”
