Georgia-bred Ernest Greene of Washed Out is back with a new album, Paracosm—the follow-up to his outstanding 2011 debut album, Within and Without—on Aug. 13 via Sub Pop. Paracosm “explores the album’s namesake phenomenon, where people create detailed imaginary worlds” and will be a departure from the synth-pop chillwave stylings of Washed Out’s past recordings.
Greene recorded this sophomore and was produced locally by Ben Allen, the man who’s mixed and produced standout albums from artists like Deerhunter, Animal Collective and M.I.A. in the past. The new album sees Greene expanding his sonic horizons, featuring over 50 different instruments, including “old keyboards like the Mellotron, Chamberlin, Novatron and Optigan.”
Paracosm will be available on CD, LP and digitally on Aug.12 in U.K. and Europe via Weird World and in North America on Aug. 13 via Sub Pop.
In anticipation of the forthcoming album release, watch a trailer with stunning kaleidoscopic visuals from Washed Out. The video seems to promise a similar vast atmospheric experience to Within and Without, but a cleaner and simpler production than that of his first album.
