Much like fashion or language, Hollywood goes through various fads, and lately, production companies have been hot for plots with three key figures: vampires/zombies, superheroes and the kidnapped daughter with a father figure who takes matters into his own hands.
Following in the steps of Man on Fire, Taken, The Lovely Bones, Gone Baby Gone, Taken 2 and many, many more, the new trailer for Prisoners was released yesterday.
The film stars Hugh Jackman as a father whose daughter is mysteriously kidnapped on Thanksgiving Day. Jake Gyllenhaal is the detective who is hired to find her kidnapper. Unsurprisingly, when the case’s only suspect, played by the insanely creepy-looking Paul Dano, is released due to a lack of evidence against him, Jackman pulls the “desperate times” card.
Though the trailer may not help Prisoners stand out from other films in its genre, the movie boasts a solid cast. Joining Jackman, Gyllenhaal and Dano are Academy Award-nominated Viola Davis and Terrence Howard along with Academy Award-winning Melissa Leo.
Prisoners is set to be released on Sept. 20.
