According to recent reports, Christoph Waltz has signed on to play the leading role in a dark detective thriller called True Crimes. And while we’ll admit that the announcement already had us at Christoph Waltz, details on the film are setting this up to be a film worth watching.
The thriller will be based on a New Yorker piece “Letters from Poland,” which profiled the true story of the unsolved murder of Dariusz Janiszewski. When the trail ran cold six months in, a detective named Jacek Wroblewski (played by Waltz) re-opened the case. Tracing the victim’s cellphone, Wroblewski was led to Polish writer Krystian Bala, whose sado-sexual novel Amok bore an uncanny resemblance to the details of Janiszewski’s death.
Brett Ratner (Prison Break, X-Men: The Last Stand) will produce the film and with rumors of Roman Polanski looking to direct it, we’ve got several reasons to be excited. Waltz and Polanski recently collaborated on Carnage, a comedy with theatrical hijinks concerning two married couples who come together to discuss a conflict between their sons.
