Star Wars has shifted hands and made several sweeping changes in the past decade—from their purchase by Disney Studios, to hiring J.J. Abrams to helm a new series, to the controversial decision to add CGI and other special effects to re-released originals. With more news of the upcoming Episode VII release coming to light, rumors are surfacing that Lucasfilm is dipping into an unexpected casting pool for their upcoming trilogy…from Florence Welch?
The singer is currently being considered for a “major part” in the new film, among other unexpected casting decisions the studio is “keen” to look into. While we’re certain that Welch would look spectacular in full-on sci-fi garb, what can we expect from her in an on-screen role? Though she has some acting experience, U.K.’s The Sun reported that “it was her singing on stage that initially caught the eye.” So, maybe Toy Story 3 writer Michael Arndt, who’s been pegged to pen the script, will write in a quick performance for her. Maybe.
Star Wars: Episode VII is expected to start filming in Britain early next year and is set to make its debut worldwide in 2015.
