The new single from Deer Tick’s upcoming fifth album, Negativity, is a heartbreaking tune titled “The Rock.”
Singer and songwriter John McCauley sings about love lost in this very somber and moody new track. It’s a rollercoaster of a song as it features a simple piano chord progression and a strong horn section.
”’The Rock’ is a song about being in love with an artist and subsequently having your heart broken by that artist,’ McCauley told Rolling Stone. “The silly little metaphors in the song are ‘the rock’ which is the power to destroy your relationship, and ‘the window’ which is the relationship. I like the idea of a breakup being represented by shattering glass.”
Negativity comes out September 24. Listen to the song here.
