It was three years between Dent May’s first studio album, 2009’s The Good Feeling Music Of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele, and his second, last years Do Things, but the Mississippi musician decided to speed things up for his third record.
A little over a year after he released his pleasant sophomore effort, May will release his third studio album, Warm Blanket, late this summer, and he’s given us a taste of the album with the release of the lead single “Born Too Late.”
The single, which is available over at his Soundcloud page, continues on the funky, beat-heavy feel of Do Things, a departure from his ukulele days, and adds some nicely constructed strings to complement his poppy melodies. As May sings about his frustrations with age limitations and expectations, structured piano chords and hand claps ensure that you can keep dancing, even through his misfortune.
Warm Blanket is out Aug. 27 on Paw Tracks. Listen to the first single below.
