Last week Neko Case released a 90-second teaser for her forthcoming album The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You that showcased a somber, slow-brooding tune from the album. Today she confirmed a Sept. 3 release date for the album and released the album’s powerful guitar-driven single “Man” featuring M. Ward’s guitar work.
Neko hits the ground running with “Man,” as the song kicks in with a head rush of a guitar riff and an attention grabbing opening line from Case: “I’m a man, that’s what you raised me to be.” The song barrels along with purpose, lyrically exploring all that comes with manhood through the guise of Neko Case’s howl-at-the-moon swagger.
M. Ward’s rich guitar work breathes life into the song, providing a no-frills bedding for Case’s ragtag melody. It’s a chest-beating song that sheds expectations and focuses on bare-boned, southern-tinged rock sentiments
The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You is set for release on ANTI- on Sept. 3.
