The man behind the branding of punk legends The Ramones has died at age 65, according to The San Francisco Bay Guardian.
A close friend of the band members, Vega designed the iconic bald-eagle-and-baseball-bat seal that adorned the t-shirts of the band for over two decades.
Vega created the logo concept as a take on the U.S. presidential seal. He adapted the logo based on the band’s interests (the olive branch changed to an apple tree branch, and the arrows swapped out for a baseball bat). Finally, the band members’ names (Johnny, Joey, Dee Dee and Tommy) replaced the words “Seal of the President of the United States.”
