Though there’s still no word on the possibilities of an Iron Man 4, Marvel fan’s can rest assured they’ll see Tony Stark in at least two more films.
Marvel has confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. will return as Tony Stark/Iron Man in both the second and third installments of the company’s Avenger’s series.
The two films will follow last year’s hugely successful The Avengers, which grossed over $1.5 billion worldwide on its way to claiming the third highest-grossing film of all-time.
Downey Jr.’s contract with the film company expired after his role in this year’s Iron Man 3, which is also on the list of top five highest-grossing films, but now Disney’s Marvel has officially re-signed their most bankable actor for at least two more films.
Though other original cast members Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo have yet to be confirmed for the sequel, The Avengers 2 is set to begin filming early next year. There have also been reports that Aaron Taylor-Johnson is in talks to play Quicksilver after director Joss Whedon confirmed that fictional X-Men character would make an appearance in the film.
The Avengers 2 is set to be released on May 1, 2015.
