Earlier this month The Replacements joined the reunion camp and announced that they’d be playing at Riot Fest Chicago and its various offshoots in Denver and Toronto, their first shows since 1991. The band has been teasing a reunion for quite some time, releasing an EP to raise funds for former guitarist Slim Dunlap after he suffered a stroke, and now that they’ve delivered the goods it looks like the teasing shall continue.
The Replacements recently released a brief clip of the band performing their homage to Big Star’s vocalist “Alex Chilton” from their 1987 album Pleased to Meet Me. The reunion will feature vocalist Paul Westerburg and bassist Tommy Stinson while the rest of the band’s lineup has yet to be announced.
The Replacements will make their return on stage in Toronto during Riot Fest Toronto, which takes place from Aug. 24-25. The band will also perform in Chicago during Riot Fest taking place from Sept. 13-15 and Denver from Sept. 21-22. The band hasn’t announced any additional tour dates, but has yet to rule it out as a possibility.
