Islands Announce New Album Ski Mask, Listen to "Wave Forms"

Islands’ Nick Thorburn has mastered the art of veiling his sharply biting lyrics under the guise of bright pop music. If you needed any evidence, look no further than “Wave Forms”, the band’s new single from the forthcoming LP Ski Mask.

Ski Mask is the band’s fifth album and if “Wave Forms” is any indication of its sound, it chronicles the frustration of making music. “Wave Forms” opens with cynical lyrics that speak of “floating endlessly” in a sea of wave forms. “I won’t write another wave and I won’t write another word after today” sings Thorburn.

“This record is really about being angry” Thorburn states in a press release. “Like the third act of a movie—just after it seems like all hope is lost, that’s when the big breakthrough moment happens. For Islands, this is us waiting for the breakthrough moment.”

Ski Mask will be released on Sept. 17 on Thorburn’s own label Manqué. To coincide with the announcement of their album, the band released a full list of tour dates that run through September and October which can be found below.
