Designers Aleksandra and Daniel Mizielinski of Hipopotam studio have designed and illustrated a pretty obscene amount of books. One of their projects, Maps, is a beautiful hand-drawn atlas that not only features the “borders, cities, rivers and peaks” of 51 places, but also characteristic animals, plants, extracurricular activities and cultural icons unique to each location. It took the designers three years to design the book—and the evidence of their labor is woven into all 4,000 illustrations (insert sharp exhale here). The designers also created two custom typefaces, “Mrs White” and “Cartographer” for the project.
Their (wildly entertaining) website features more photos of the “journey around the world in pictures.”
