Director Spike Lee, a graduate program professor for 15 years at the NYU Film School, knows a thing or two about making movies. All you have to do is scroll through his IMDb profile to get an idea of how many great films this director has made.
But everyone starts somewhere, and today Lee posted his list of essential films any aspiring filmmaker must watch on his Kickstarter page. Or as he calls it, “The List Of Films That I Feel You Must See If You Want To Make Films.” He hands this list out to his students on the first day of class of every semester as a guide to help them broaden their knowledge of film history.
“As I tell my students if you want your film ‘game’ to be tight you must have seen great movies, world cinema, it just can’t be Hollywood films,” Lee said in a statement. “Educate yourself. Learn. Grow. Evolve. Make great films.”
