Fans of the cult Korean thriller Oldboy have been waiting with bated breath ever since an American remake was announced. While we all have our premature judgments, the first official trailer has shed some light on what Spike Lee’s vision of the film might look like.
Josh Brolin stars as Joe Doucett, a man who is locked alone in a room for over a decade before suddenly being set free. Doucett then goes on a hunt to uncover the reason for his punishments, enlisting the help of Elizabeth Olsen’s character, Marie, in the process. You can watch the trailer above.
Even though Lee’s version isn’t supposed to be an exact replica of Park Chan-wook’s 2003 film, the trailer looks pretty similar. So for those who haven’t seen the original, nothing more will be said.
Oldboy is set for an Oct. 25 release.
