Up-and-coming bands, take note: the cool thing to do if you are releasing an album in 2013 is to give barely any details, put some stuff on random buildings and hope that people speculate accurately and build the hype you pretend you don’t want.
Kanye did it earlier this year with his cryptic “June 19” tweet and “New Slaves” projections. Now it looks like Arcade Fire might be following suit. That, or some random band named “Reflektor” is hitting the buzz jackpot. Or maybe it’s that new U2 album we’ve been waiting for. We just don’t know anymore.
New images posted on a curious Instagram account have led many to speculate that Win Butler and the gang have just announced the release date for their new single, which apparently will be out in less than a month’s time.
Last week, various Internet sources reported a link between the Grammy-winning Canadian band and a mysterious account on the photo-sharing site titled “Reflektor,” which is thought to be the title of the band’s upcoming album. The account has been posting various images of street art with a circle-enclosed diamond containing the supposed title inside.
Yesterday, the same account posted three images that spell out “9 PM 9/9,” which might confirm an earlier report that Arcade Fire would be releasing new music on Sept. 9. Though the band has yet to acknowledge any association with the Instagram account, we’re taking their abstention from denying the link as a sign that there’s maybe, probably, possibly some sort of connection there.
Arcade Fire recently confirmed that they will release their still-(?) untitled fourth studio album on Oct. 29. Check out the Instagram photos below.
