Updated: The 25-minute short film has been released, starring Boy Meets World’s Danielle Fishel, Trinidad Jame$ and Chance the Rapper. Watch it above.
Donald Glover has most definitely come a long way from his sketch comedy origins. If you need any proof, look straight at the artsy, mysterious teaser trailer that Glover leaked this week for an upcoming project titled Clapping For The Wrong Reasons. The project appears to be for a Childish Gambino project, whether its tied to a music video or a short film is yet to be known, but Glover did announce via Twitter that the “directors cut” would be released next week.
The vague trailer released for this upcoming project features a whole crew of surprise cameos ranging from adult film stars to childhood icons. The teaser opens with a shot of Glover dribbling a basketball up a spiral staircase and follows with strings of brief dialogue and random snippets from the film including Chance the Rapper and Trinidad Jame$ playing Connect Four. Seriously.
But that’s not where the strangeness ends, Boy Meets World star Danielle Fishel makes an appearance. L.A producer Flying Lotus is featured as well, both physically and musically as the clip features a heady beat—presumably from FlyLo—in its outro.
Shots of bloody noses and swimming pool snorkeling are peppered throughout the clip and while nobody is really too sure of what Clapping For The Wrong Reasons will turn out to be, it’s sure to be eccentric to say the least.
